Kindle for PC application announced

Amazon recently announced that they will be rolling out a new free application known as “Kindle for PC” which will enable readers worldwide to enjoy Kindle e-books right on their PCs. Currently, there are more than 360,000 books available on the US Kindle Store, where among these will include New Releases and 101 of 112 New York Times Bestsellers that normally retail for no more than $9.99. Voracious readers will find that the Kindle Store is the only place to stumble upon some of the most popular books of today in a paperback-less form; and by that we mean in digital format. Kindle books are also obviously readable if you own any of the following devices – the Kindle, Kindle DX, iPhone and iPod touch, apart from the afore-mentioned PC.

Kindle for PC will see Amazon’s Whispersync technology which will save and synchronize bookmarks automatically alongside the last page read across devices. Translated to layman’s terms, regardless of whether you read Kindle books on a Kindle, Kindle DX, or one of the free Kindle applications, you can always return to the page you were last reading without having lose your place regardless of the device. With Kindle for PC, imagine doing some reading at home on your computer, followed up by the same page on the Kindle while you are heading to work on your daily commute. Whispersync assisted in creating the Kindle for iPhone application, which is one of the most popular books app in the Apple App Store.
Some of the features available with Kindle for PC include :-
  • Purchase, download, and read hundreds of thousands of books available in the Kindle Store
  • Access their entire library of previously purchased Kindle books stored on Amazon’s servers for free
  • Choose from over 10 different font sizes and adjust words per line
  • Add and automatically synchronize bookmarks and last page read
  • View notes and highlights marked on Kindle and Kindle DX
  • Zoom in and out of text with a pinch of the fingers (Windows 7 users only)
  • Turn pages with a finger swipe (available in a future release for Windows 7 users)
